Farewall Dennis, our legendary Dutchmaster
Finally, we've just installed Astro at home...I would not miss any 'great shows' on my favorite channel 80,81 and maybe, 82..of course, I watched channel 50, 51 & 52 frequently, and oftenly, channel 17 (most of the shows I've already burned on DVD)...what? A.F. channel? boring...but that's the only time when the rest of my family gathered together, sit on the sofa in front of the TV watching something...oh well...
my Astro's "1st rasmie" is the Dennis Bergkamp testimonial match on Sunday midnight...this was his very last game on Arsenal shirt, in the same time, his 1st game at our new stadium, the Emirates Stadium (a.k.a. Ashburton Grove)...this was a very emotional match indeed...Dennis is the reason I'm a Gooner til now...He's my 1st football idol (before Thierry Henry arrived)..He is one of those who revive Arsenal from those typical boring-boring 1-0 Arsenal to one of the Premiership powerhouse...his powerful vision, slick passing, and his very trademark curler are very wonderful to watch...They say that in Henry's 200++ goals in Arsenal, only a couple of them are memorable...but in Dennis 120 total goal, each and every one of them is outstanding...The very best of this is the one he scored against Newcastle United in 2002...the one he flicked the ball above the defender with his back at the goal, then makes the turning and cooly slotted it in the net...this particular move then will be refered to his name when anyone else tried to emulate it a.k.a. "That's Dennis Bergkamp-like backflick"...
This testimonial match was between Arsenal and his 1st professional club, Ajax Amsterdam...on the 1st half, the team made of youngsters as a lot of 1st team players were resting after the World Cup...supposely, the perfect script was that Bergkamp scored the 1st goal for Arsenal in this new stadium, but it never happened...in fact, the visitor scored 1st...but on 2nd half, Arsenal prevailed by scoring 2 (although Bergy couldn't get his name in the scoresheet)...the interesting part was that in the 2nd half, most of the Arsenal players were based on 1998 where they've won the double...there's Seaman, Dixon, Winterburn, Bould, Keown, Parlour, Vieira, Petit, Overmars, and Ian Wright (another Arsenal's legendary striker)..other players include Manninger, Edu, Gio, Kanu and Henry himself, who wanted to take part in the match..it's pity there's no Tony Adams...while the Ajax team, wow...those Dutch legends...Marco Van Basten (Holland coach), Frank Rijkaard (Barcelona coach), Johan Cruyff (the 1st official Dutch legend) among others like Van der Sar, Davids, the DeBoer brothers etc...
Dennis' name will be cemented together with the A-list of Dutch legends, alongside Cruyff and Van Basten (critics and fans said that only these 3 are in the 1st class, others follow closely on slightly lower class)...and he will be dearly missed by all of the Gooners...Dennis Bergkamp, the one and only Dutchmaster...
